Koordinatorji projekta 5 LAS-ov iz Španije na področju zaščite planinskega okolja, gastronomije in pokrajine bi radi med 27. in 31. oktobrom obiskali alpske regije in so zainteresirani za sodelovanje z LAS-i iz alpskega dela Slovenije zaradi izmenjave izkušenj na področju planinskega pastirstva. Stroške obiska bi si v celoti krili sami.

Dear friends,
I write you regarding an exchange visit of mountain experiences from Spain to the Alpine region.
I would like to introduce you a bit more the purpose of my request of contacts with Leader + LAGs in the Slovenian Alpine region.
I am coordinating PASTOR 2, a cooperation project amongst 5 LAGs in Spain, from different mountain regions, with presence of mountain pastoralist activity, some sort of environmental protection form and valuable gastronomy and landscape. The previous stage ( 2004-2008) is covered at www.proyectopastor.com
According to that, our main goals for this current project 2nd stage are:
- To show the environmental importance of mountain pastoralism
- To define the training needs of the local population and promote capacity building programs in different aspects. ( 2 LAGs from the project carry on Shepherds Schools, offering also to young people from elsewhere the chance to learn the job with a shepherd and start his/her own activity with collective infrastructures built within the project)
- To develope alternatives to sustain the economies of pastoralist communities and mountain villages, with special attention to the Primary Sector.

Therefore, we plan to carry on a visit to the Alpine region, as a way to approach and learn from innovative initiatives in this field carried from LAGs of Austrian , Slovenian and Italian territories. A delegation of local key actors of each different LAG part of PASTOR2 Project, will travel around those areas , from 27th to 31st October.
We have already arranged some visits but we are still looking to know from any interesting experience from the Slovenian LAGs you know from the Alpine region, specially those ones close to the border with any of the other mentioned countries.

We expect to be able to meet the LAGs technicians and other important actors behind any of the projects on mountain pastoralism you or the groups advise as to visit. We arrange by ourselves transport and lodging, as well as covering any other costs from these visits.
Our interest is mainly to gather information about projects with schemes to support the continuation of mountain pastoralis, to reconnect it wth other sectors ( such as tourism economies) and to improve the transformation and marketing of local products, specially paying attention to short circuits and local markets.

We can send you also a more detailed profile of our territories and project definition. One of the purposes of this visits is also to reinforce the mutal knowledge of european mountain areas with similar problems, but maybe different approaches and solutions that when succesful, can be translated to other areas.
Ultimately, we are looking forward potentially interested LAGs in those countries to take part in a common proposal of transnational cooperation Leader + , under the common interest of maintaining mountain farming and livestock systems, to revalue landscape and local production derived form them, for 2011 on.
I would be very grateful if you could send me references and contacts of LAGs from the Slovenian Alpine region already working on these topics, any reference of current projects on this, or places which would be interesting to visit to see results from previous projects. Any map detailing the areas and towns included in each GAL of that area would be also of great use for planning the visits.
We will produce a video -documentary of this exchange-visits that will be given to you translated into english, for your own free use.
